My Journey to Finding the Perfect Food for Our Puppy!

This week I started to gather all the supplies we’ll need for Sassy to come home. While most supplies needed are pretty standard and simple to choose from, I got stuck while choosing dog food. I started reading the ingredient lists and comparing, and within minutes I realized that this was going to take a little more research on my part. It’s been a ruff journey (pun intended), but trust me, there’s a light at the end of this tunnel!

After reading just a few dog food articles, I realized that the dog food industry was like a wild jungle, filled with just as many unhealthy and dodgy products as our human food industry. Who knew that the same tricks they play with our foods, they also tried to pull with our pets?

So, I dove into the realm of dog food labels. Oh, boy, let me tell you – “the lingo” they use would give even Shakespeare a headache! But fear not, for knowledge is power, and with a little research, decoding those cryptic terms became a walk in the park-ish.

While I couldn’t find a “LIST” with ALL the “lingo” terms used, I learned that it’s easier to look for what you want in your pet’s food than what you don’t want. I’ve come to appreciate the importance of reading labels more than ever before. Just like with our own food, it’s essential to know exactly what we’re feeding our furry friends. If the ingredients list reads like a tongue-twister or resembles a science experiment, put that bag back on the shelf and walk away like a boss.

Now, let’s talk about the good stuff! There are some awesome options out there and I’ll share a few videos I found online with great information that can help you learn what to look for in your dog’s food.

Pro-tip: Keep an eye out for high-quality protein sources like chicken, beef, turkey, or fish as the first ingredient. Protein is vital for your puppy’s growth and boundless energy!

But hold your leashes, folks – there are some sneaky culprits that should make you say, “Thanks, but no thanks!” Avoid foods with artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives. Let’s keep things au naturel, just like the love we share with our four-legged friends!

And don’t forget about the importance of healthy fats, like Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, to keep those coats shiny and those tails wagging in style!

Oh, and portion control is key! Puppy eyes are adorable, but let’s not let them trick us into overfeeding. A healthy balance will keep your pooch at their best shape and avoid any puppy-sized bulges.

So, don’t be discouraged by the confusing jungle of dog food choices. Arm yourself with knowledge, read those labels, and embrace the power to make informed decisions for your precious pups!

With the right ingredients and a little bit of wit, we can all unleash the joy of a healthy, happy, and well-nourished furry companion. Here’s to finding the paw-fect puppy food and a lifetime of tail-wagging adventures together! 🐾

What we plan to feed our dog.

Below are some links to the foods we’ve chosen for our dog and a few helpful videos that gave us some useful information about how to choose the foods and how to implement this new diet.

This is the first video I watched that sparked my curiosity about what is in dog foods. I think I may end up using Dr. Marty’s food line eventually. I’m still thinking about it.
